Tain's favourite CD's:
1. "Transition" & "Crescent" John Coltrane Quartet Elvin's deep swing and sound will probably never be equaled.
2. "Birds of Fire" & "Visions of the Emerald Beyond" Mahavishnu Orchestra Before I heard jazz or Coltrane, this and Hendrix showed me the spirit, optimism and power music could have. Billy Cobham: courageous and precise; Narada Michael Walden: funky and relentless.
3. "Nefertiti" Miles Davis Tony's gift to the world. Orchestration, creativity and cymbal playing that is unsurpassed, a genius in love with music.
4. "Live at the Fillmore West" Aretha Franklin Bernard Purdie is the definition of what it means to take care of business on the drums.
5. "Talking Book" Stevie Wonder This is simply what music is supposed to sound like.
Also anything that shows the rich universality of Africa (Mongo, Tito, Fort Apache, James Brown, Doudou N'Diaye Rose, Deep Rumba, Papa Jo Jones, Monk, etc.)
